Reasons for Tooth Loss

Even though aging is the most well-known reason for tooth loss, other factors include:

  • Advanced gum disease
  • Sports injuries
  • Oral trauma
  • Tooth extraction
  • Other health conditions

Regardless of why your smile requires repair, our staff is here to assist. We’ll have you attend a one-on-one consultation with our dentist in Mississauga. They will review your history, take x-rays, and examine your oral cavity. All this information allows them to recommend the best solution. If that’s dentures, the process can get started.

Styles of Dentures

The two types of dentures we provide at Iona Dental are:

  1. Partial: This is given to patients missing several teeth but still have natural ones remaining. Partial dentures are typically removable and function similarly to a dental bridge.
  2. Complete: Complete dentures restore an entire smile.

Molds are taken to ensure the appliance matches your oral dimensions. Gum-coloured acrylic is used for the base and porcelain for the artificial teeth. Both these materials look natural and resist stains well. While you wait for the dentures to be made, we will provide you with a temporary appliance so you can still bite, chew, and speak clearly. It may take a few appointments to fully adjust your dentures, but rest assured, our team will ensure they’re fitted properly.

Be patient with yourself as a transition period is needed to get used to wearing your dentures daily. They may feel foreign or bulky at first, but you will gradually become familiar with everything involved in wearing, cleaning, and storing them. And, of course, if you experience any difficulties, your device gets damaged, or additional adjustments are required, don’t hesitate to visit us.
