Dental Fillings in Mississauga

Dental Fillings Near You

Traditionally, metal fillings known as silver amalgam were routinely provided to patients who needed dental restorations, such as tooth fillings. These days, people prefer restorations that are not readily noticeable. This is why we offer composite resin (bonded) fillings at Iona Dental. With this treatment, you can preserve your tooth against future damage.

Dental Fillings in Mississauga

Why are Fillings Necessary?

Dental fillings help heal teeth that have become damaged by cavities. Cavities are small decay-filled holes that form in or on top of the tooth. This decay is an amalgamation of sugars, bacteria, acids, and other particles. When these particles are left on your smile, they will eat away at the tooth. If a cavity is not treated, it can grow, and a dental filling may not be an adequate solution.

Some common factors that can cause cavities include:

  • Sugary foods and drinks
  • Starches
  • Dry mouth (lack of saliva to wash away debris)
  • Poor hygiene
  • Lack of fluoride
  • Heartburn (stomach acid flows into your mouth and damages teeth)

Treatment Steps

At Iona Dental, you can get a dental filling placed in a single appointment, allowing you to resume your daily schedule. This is a non-invasive, standardized treatment. Here is a breakdown of the treatment:

  1. Your tooth is numbed with local anesthesia. This medication also prevents you from feeling any discomfort or sensitivity while our dental team works.
  2. Every bit of decay is scraped from the tooth; this may require use of a small dental drill. Then, the area is disinfected so an infection doesn’t develop in the future.
  3. The resin is administered into the tooth. A curing light is directed at the tooth to ensure the material fully hardens.
  4.  After a few minutes, we’ll make sure everything looks good before polishing it to a nice shine.

During your routine check-ups and cleanings, we’ll inspect your filling to determine whether it is still in good condition or needs replacement.
