Bonded Fillings

What Are Bonded Fillings?

Bonded fillings are made from a resin material and are used to fill your cavities or replace your old fillings. They are bonded to the tooth using a special curing light. Once the bond has set, it becomes solid, durable, and provides you with a natural look.

We always do our best to make sure that bonded fillings match the colour of your natural teeth, so you never have to worry about others noticing it.

Bonded Fillings Are Used For A Variety Of Different Reasons And Not Just For Filling Cavities. Some Of The Other Uses Include:

  • Fixing teeth with cracks or chips
  • Replacing older fillings
  • Shaping the surface of an uneven tooth
  • Closing in gaps between teeth

Advantages & Disadvantages

  • There are a number of advantages when it comes to bonded fillings with the most notable one being that the resin can match your tooth colour. In addition, the bonded filling can be customized to your tooth to reshape it and close in any gaps that you have.
  • If the bonding is NOT being used as a filling for tooth decay, you often do not even need any type of local anesthetic, as the process is not painful.
  • As with any procedure, there are some disadvantages to consider. Bonded fillings can stain much more easily than some of the other options out there, so it is important that you do your best to minimize staining products such as red wine, black coffee, tea etc..

Treating Tooth Decay With Bonded Fillings

If you have a cavity, one of our dentists will first examine the tooth and determine the best way to approach treatment. If a bonded filling is your best option, then a drill will be used to remove any decay from your tooth. Your tooth will then be cleaned before the bonded filling is placed. After the filling is placed, a special curing light will be placed over-top of the tooth to activate the bonding material and seal it to the tooth.
