Dental Crown

What are crowns?

Crowns are caps that fit snugly over your original teeth to produce a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Trained craftsmen in a dental laboratory work to produce ceramic crowns that look like natural teeth, and are strong and long lasting.

Why crowns?

Our practitioners may recommend this treatment for the following reasons:

  • Protect broken or worn teeth
  • Replace a large filling
  • Restore a dental implant
  • A tooth that has been root canal treated
  • To create a more esthetic smile

Treatment Steps

Fabricating crowns are a 3 step process. These steps are generally done over the course of 2 appointments. These steps include:

Appointment 1: Preparation & Impression

  • The tooth is prepared for a crown
  • An impression is then taken to capture the prepared tooth. This impression is then sent to the lab so that they can fabricate your crown. This lab fabrication process can take 1-2 weeks.
  • You will leave this appointment with a temporary crown to protect your tooth until the final crown can be cemented

Appointment 2: Insertion of final crown

  • 1-2 weeks later you will re-visit the clinic for your second appointment. During this appointment we will try in your final crown and confirm that the shade selected and the fit is accurate. The crown is then cemented.
