What is a Dental Crown?
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap or covering that is placed over unsightly or unhealthy teeth, including:
- Discoloured teeth that don’t respond to whitening
- Weak or worn-down teeth
- Restore broken teeth
This restoration can also be incorporated into other services:
- preserving a tooth that’s undergone a root canal
- attaching onto a dental bridge to keep it in place
- covering a dental implant
Severe materials can be used to fabricate a dental crown, including silver amalgam, ceramic, and porcelain. In the past, amalgam (a combination of metals) was often provided since it is very durable. However, amalgam is quite noticeable, and most patients prefer that their restorations blend in with their other teeth. As a result, porcelain has become the most popular choice. It is both strong and stainresistant. At Iona Dental, our dentist in Mississauga will work with you to identify the shade that will blend in with your smile.

Treatment Steps
Acquiring a dental crown is a routine process that will be completed in approximately two appointments. One of our dentists near you will need to examine your smile and discuss your oral health goals prior to approving you for any treatment. Once it’s been established that a dental crown is the right solution, we’ll get to work preparing and taking impressions of the affected tooth. The impressions are essential to ensure the restoration meets your dimensions. Any decay is scraped away, and then a temporary crown is provided.
After 1-2 weeks, your permanent crown will be ready for application. It is sent to our clinic from the dental lab. We’ll have you come in so we can slip it over your tooth. Dental cement ensures it stays in place. Before you go, our team will make final adjustments.
And that’s all there is to it! You can get back to eating your favourite meals and snacks in no time. Just be sure to prioritize your oral hygiene, as this will increase the lifespan of your
